On September 11, 2001, the passengers and crew of the hijacked planes made several phone calls that became historic. Betty Ann Ong, a flight attendant on American Airlines Flight 11, managed to contact the airline to report that the flight had been hijacked, becoming one of the first people to alert authorities about the attack.
One of the terrorists on Flight 11 made a serious mistake by accidentally communicating with the control tower twice, inadvertently revealing their presence on the plane and providing clues about the ongoing hijacking.
In addition to the emergency calls, some passengers and crew members managed to make their final phone calls to their families, allowing their loved ones to hear their voices for the last time before the tragedies occurred.
These audio recordings became fundamental evidence for the investigations that followed the attacks and continue to be remembered as historic testimonies of the final moments of those people aboard the hijacked flights.
