The state government of Rio de Janeiro signed an emergency contract with RioCard, valid for seven months, so that the company continues to manage the system that transfers Intermunicipal Single Ticket fare payments to public transport operators. The contract, published in the Official Gazette, guarantees service continuity until March of next year.
The decision goes against a previous determination from the State Court of Auditors (TCE-RJ). The court had ordered RioCard's exit from system management, but the emergency contract keeps the company in charge despite this guidance.
According to information from the Electronic Information System (SEI), the contracting process was carried out hastily, bypassing standard procedures. The Office of the Attorney General (PGE) received the document for analysis only on August 18th, two days before the final deadline set for contract execution.
