'Book charms': Keychain books that work as accessories become a bet by publishers at São Paulo Book Fair

Juliana Cequinne was walking through the 28th International Book Fair of São Paulo, which ends on Sunday, when a book at the Pé de Letra publisher's booth caught her attention. It was "365 Stoic Reflections," a small volume with thoughts from Ancient philosophers who proposed taming passions to ward off suffering, like the former enslaved Epictetus.

What persuaded Juliana to buy the book was its differentiated format: it is a keychain, a "book charm," as these little books that fit in your pocket and also function as accessories are being called. The product represents a bet by publishers to attract new audiences during the event.

In the work, there are quotes like that of Epictetus: "It is not events that disturb us, but the opinion we have about them." Juliana stated that she likes "wisdom pills," and the compact format of the book facilitated her purchase decision, allowing her to always carry the reflections with her attached to her keys.
