The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said on Thursday that, if he had to make the decision again to start a war against Iran, he would "do exactly the same". The statement refers to his previous decision to order an attack against Iran.
Trump made this statement even while acknowledging that such a decision could result in a defeat of the Republican Party in the midterm elections, known as "midterms", scheduled for November 4.
The American president indicated, however, that he does not believe this defeat will actually happen, thus minimizing the possible negative impact of his military decision on the electoral race.
Trump's statement comes at a time of internal political tension, in which the president demonstrates he is willing to maintain his hardline stance on foreign policy, regardless of the electoral consequences for his party.
