OFFICIAL: James Rodríguez returns to Colombia almost 20 years later

Maisfutebol11 September 2026 at 08:06

James Rodríguez, former FC Porto player, returns to Colombia almost 20 years after the start of his professional career in the country. The Colombian player signed for Atlético Nacional, the club he first left as a young man to venture into European football. The transfer marks the return of the 33-year-old midfielder to his homeland after a long international career that included clubs such as Monaco, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Everton, Olympiacos and Porto again. The operation represents a significant change for Rodríguez, who is looking to recover his best form after a less successful season at Olympiacos, where he failed to establish himself as a starter. Atlético Nacional is one of the most traditional clubs in Colombia and hopes that Rodríguez's experience can strengthen the team in the fight for local titles. This transfer comes at a time when the Colombian player still has much to offer to football, despite the last few unstable years in terms of clubs and injuries that have affected his continuity.
