Rui Corrêa Henriques: "There's a lot of capital available, what there perhaps isn't, are that many opportunities"

Jornal Económico11 September 2026 at 07:00

Rui Corrêa Henriques was interviewed by Jornal Económico as part of the "JE Entrevista" podcast. In the interview, Henriques states that there is a lot of capital available in the markets, but points out that there are not as many investment opportunities as there is capital.

The interview was made available in video format on YouTube and also as an episode of the "JE Entrevista" podcast, available on Spotify, Google Podcasts, and Apple Podcasts.

The title of the interview summarizes Rui Corrêa Henriques' position: "There's a lot of capital available, what there perhaps isn't, are that many opportunities", suggesting a gap between the liquidity present in the markets and the attractive investment options available.

Goods Barometer Indicates Resilient Trade Growth Despite Challenges

Global goods trade continued to strengthen in mid-2026, despite persistent geopolitical and political uncertainties, according to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Goods Trade Barometer. The report indicates that sectors such as manufacturing and agriculture show positive signs of recovery, driven by growing demand in emerging markets. Although tensions between major powers and divisions in trade agreements have created a challenging environment, technological advances and logistics improvements have allowed supply chains to adapt quickly. Analysts attribute this resilience to investment in infrastructure and digitalization adopted by companies to circumvent protectionist policies, although they warn that political and economic uncertainties may still influence the future trajectory of trade.

The markets don't save the good student from Fitch. See this week's "Weekly"

This week's "Semanário" from Jornal Económico analyses a week rich in economic and political developments, from Portugal's rating upgrade by Fitch to A+ to the ECB's interest rate hike of 25 basis points, including the AfD's historic victory in Germany, the Portuguese government's 800 million fiscal measures to block a motion of censure, and the implementation of the new electronic border system in Portugal. The week was also marked by geopolitical tension in the Middle East, which drove oil prices above 100 dollars and worsened Portuguese debt yields, demonstrating that, despite Portugal being considered a "good student" by Fitch, the markets don't forgive when it comes to financing.

SMAS de Sintra invest one million euros to reduce water losses

The Municipal Water and Sanitation Services of Sintra (SMAS) are investing approximately one million euros to improve the efficiency of the water supply network, through the installation and renovation of Pressure Reducing Valves (PRV) and the creation of Measurement and Control Zones (MCZ). A 720 thousand euro contract will allow the installation of seven new PRVs and the renovation of eight others, while another 300 thousand euro intervention has already created eight new MCZ. These measures are part of the strategy to reduce non-revenue water, which represented approximately 18% at the end of 2025, in a municipality with almost 1,900 kilometres of pipelines. The interventions also include the rehabilitation of pipelines at various points in the municipality and the rehabilitation of reservoirs.
