The report on Portuguese dam safety, requested by the Government, was considered "reassuring" regarding large dams, but makes specific recommendations for small structures. The conclusion was presented by the Minister of Environment and Energy during a hearing at the Special Commission for National Resilience, Prevention of Natural Disasters and Monitoring of the PRR, at the Assembly of the Republic.
The government official noted that the complete report should only be finalized in December, although preliminary information on the state of dams in the country is already available. This assessment comes in the context of increased attention to natural disaster risks and the need to ensure the safety of water infrastructure in Portugal.
The Commission where the hearing took place is especially dedicated to monitoring the PRR, the country's recovery and resilience program, which highlights the importance the Executive places on the modernization and safety of national infrastructure.
