Âmbar Energia, an electric sector company controlled by J&F, the holding company of the Batista family that also controls the food manufacturer JBS, announced an investment of R$ 5.5 billion in the electricity system of Amazonas by 2031. The presentation of the plan was made at the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam) last week.
According to the company, R$ 3.9 billion of the total will come from its own capital, while the remainder will be financed by federal government transfers, including resources from the Luz para Todos program. The objective of the investment is to modernize the electrical infrastructure of the state.
Âmbar Energia began operating in the distribution of electricity in Amazonas after acquiring Amazonas Energia from Eletrobras in 2024. The state-owned electric company had been privatized in 2022 and, after privatization, was renamed Axia, which carried out a divestment plan that included the Amazonas concession.
The acquisition was part of a larger package in which Âmbar Energia purchased 13 thermoelectric plants from Axia for R$ 4.7 billion. With the new announced investment, the company seeks to improve the quality and coverage of the electric service in the state.
