Fenprof, the teachers' federation, demands that studies and pedagogical evaluation be carried out before any merger between the 1st and 2nd cycles of basic education. The trade union organization considers this evaluation essential to guarantee educational quality.
The federation also warns that the measure announced by the Government may not exclusively aim at pedagogical benefits. According to Fenprof, the merging of cycles may be used as a way to manage the lack of teachers in schools.
This position comes following a measure announced by the Executive regarding the reorganization of education cycles in Portugal.
