Amnesty International denounced, on the day when the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks was commemorated, that crimes committed in the name of the so-called "war on terror" were never brought to trial. The human rights organization considered that a climate of impunity persists regarding these violations.
The complaint arises in the context of the United States' response to the terrorist attacks that occurred that day. After the attacks, the U.S. government launched the so-called "war on terror," which involved military and intelligence operations in multiple countries.
Amnesty International maintains that, 25 years later, there has still been no accountability for the crimes associated with this response. The organization uses this commemoration of September 11 to draw attention to the need for justice regarding human rights violations committed during this period.
