Government: public procurement reform anticipates Brussels

Observador11 September 2026 at 00:09

The European Commission presented a public procurement reform proposal aimed at simplifying procedures and reducing administrative burden in Member States. The initiative comes within the scope of European policies for the modernisation of public administration.

The Portuguese government indicated that the measures provided for in the European proposal were already included in its national strategy. The responsible minister highlighted that the objective is to replace existing bureaucracy with more agile and efficient processes.

The reform is based on three fundamental pillars: the simplification of procurement procedures, the reduction of administrative burden for public entities and companies, and the strengthening of the digitisation of processes. These elements aim to make public procurement more transparent and accessible.

The Portuguese executive expressed satisfaction at anticipating Brussels' guidelines, considering that the proposed measures align with the trajectory that was already being followed in Portugal in the field of administrative modernisation.
