Chega challenges Aguiar-Branco and maintains request for CPI against Luís Neves

SAPO Notícias10 September 2026 at 22:55

The Chega party decided to maintain its request for the creation of a Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry (CPI) related to Luís Neves, thus challenging the president of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco. The decision comes at a time of political tension between the party and the parliament's presiding board.

Chega responded to the objections raised by Aguiar-Branco to the request, stating that these objections "are devoid of any legal and constitutional basis". The party argues that the presented arguments lack legal or constitutional foundation.

Additionally, Chega presented amendments to the original request, but made a point of emphasizing that it did not change the main grounds of the CPI request. This indicates that, despite having made formal adjustments, the essence of the request remains unchanged.

The response to this matter is expected to be given this Friday, when Aguiar-Branco is expected to rule on whether Chega's request will be maintained or not.
