Prices haven't risen this much in three years

Expresso10 September 2026 at 22:57

Prices in Portugal rose at the highest rate in three years, according to recent economic data. This significant increase represents an acceleration of inflation in the country.

August marks the fifth consecutive month in which inflation exceeds the 3% threshold. This prolonged sequence of price increases had not been observed in the country for quite some time.

The current phenomenon has a parallel only in the year 2023, when a similar sequence of consecutive months with inflation above 3% was recorded. This data indicates that the current economic situation replicates previously identified patterns.

The persistence of inflation above 3% for five consecutive months suggests a trend that has been maintained throughout the second semester, affecting the cost of living for Portuguese consumers.
