A skipper was accused by the Public Prosecutor's Office of causing the death of four people during a shipwreck in Troia, with the aim of obtaining a payment of 150 euros. The man was detained by authorities after the incident that resulted in the four deaths.
The Public Prosecutor's Office presented its accusation requesting two and a half years in prison for each death caused. That is, the total sentence requested could reach ten years in prison, should the court apply the full penalties requested for the crime of negligent homicide.
The shipwreck occurred in the area of Troia, a region known for its intense maritime traffic between the peninsula and the country's southern coast. The authorities immediately initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and the skipper's responsibility.
The case was referred to court, where the skipper will answer for the crimes he is accused of. The defense has not yet publicly commented on the accusations or the sentence requested by the Public Prosecutor's Office.
