Amid crisis at the Supreme Court, movement highlights the need for diversity on the Court

The "Black Women Decide" movement released a statement amid the unprecedented crisis at the Supreme Federal Court, defending the need for diversity in the Court's composition. The movement, which led the campaign for the appointment of a Black female minister to the Supreme Court, affirms that Black female jurists are the way out of the national political labyrinth. The statement argues that when Black women arrive at strategic instances of the State, the entire structure is forced to walk together, displacing those who govern with their backs to the people. The movement maintains that the Supreme Court is "depleted and weakened by vanity and personalist disputes among men who reluctantly acknowledge that the appointment of a Black female jurist is a tactical requirement for institutional survival." The statement suggests that the Executive branch would have lacked courage by not appointing a Black female Minister to the Court.
