The widow of one of the five victims of the Amazon cargo plane accident filed a "wrongful death" lawsuit against the company, airline 21 Air LLC, and the two pilots of the aircraft. The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday, April 9, in Miami-Dade County, Florida, three days after the Boeing 767 went off the runway at Miami International Airport and hit vehicles.
The fatal victim was Yoel Rodríguez Naranjo, 53, who was driving a van with employees of a cleaning company when the plane overshot the runway and collided with the vehicle. A total of nine defendants are being held responsible for the accident, including Amazon, 21 Air LLC, and pilots Joseph Carroll and Jamie Felipe Silva Molina.
The two pilots of the cargo plane were discharged from the hospital after the accident. The aircraft's black box was recovered and is being sent for analysis. The lawsuit alleges there were "simultaneous failures" that caused the disaster.
