Midfielder Matheus Gonçalves expressed his frustration after Al-Hilal refused the proposals from Botafogo and Vasco to sign him. On a social media platform, the player wrote: "Once again, it's impossible to understand." Both Brazilian clubs intended to sign the player through a loan with an option to buy.
Matheus Gonçalves wanted to return to Brazilian football to have more opportunities to play, as he has been little used by Al-Hilal. Since the return of the season, the Arab club has taken the field eight times, but the player participated in only two matches, coming on as a substitute in the second half in both. In total, he has only 38 minutes on the field this season, with no goal contributions.
According to people close to the player, despite being physically fit, Matheus has not been utilized due to the foreign player limit allowed at Al-Hilal. The club is going through an unstable period, with changes in the board of directors and irregular performance in the Saudi league, with three wins and three losses.
