The Government will extend until the end of the year the exemption from the Waste Management Fee (TGR) in the area affected by the destruction caused in January by storm "Kristin". The information was confirmed by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, during a hearing at the Special Committee for National Resilience, Prevention of Natural Disasters and Monitoring of the PTRR, at the Assembly of the Republic.
When questioned by deputies on the matter, since the current exemption was set to end at the end of the month, the minister stated that the measure would be extended until the end of December. This is the second time the Executive has extended this exemption, as in June it had been extended until September 30.
The TGR is charged by the State to waste management entities, which in turn charge the municipalities, and these pass on the costs to citizens through the water bill. Following the bad weather at the beginning of the year, the TGR was temporarily suspended in the municipalities affected by the storm.
