Anthropic announced this Thursday that it blocked attempts to produce biological weapons. The artificial intelligence company identified suspicious requests through its systems and acted to prevent the technology from being used for harmful purposes.
The company interrupted the exchange of information when it could not determine the legitimacy of the submitted research. Unable to verify whether the requests had legitimate objectives, Anthropic opted for a maximum precaution approach.
The profiles associated with the investigations were banned from the company's systems. Anthropic did not specify how many profiles were affected or how many attempts were blocked.
The measure comes in a context of growing concern about the misuse of artificial intelligence systems. Anthropic, known for developing the Claude assistant, thus reinforced its commitment to safety and ethics in the use of its technology.
