Operation Frankmobile investigates a criminal organization that operates in cell phone robberies on the streets of São Paulo and the subsequent dismantling of devices. The police action targets the entire chain of this crime, from the street to the disassembly of equipment.
The Crime Map, a tool from O GLOBO, reveals the locations in the capital where cell phone robberies occur most frequently. Robberies on Marginal Tietê increased 114% between 2023 and 2024, going from 276 to 593 reports, combining both directions of the road and the avenues that comprise it.
The sections with the most occurrences on Marginal Tietê include entrances of building material stores and sporting goods stores, as well as access ramps of bridges such as Vila Guilherme and Vila Maria. Marginal Pinheiros also recorded a 13% increase, with robberies concentrated at entrances of shopping malls like Villa-Lobos and near train and subway stations.
Avenida do Estado took the lead in the ranking of streets with the most cell phone robberies in the city, after two years of continuous growth. The pattern of robberies has changed in recent years, and the operation seeks to combat this growing trend in the capital of São Paulo.
