Argentine footballer Lionel Messi has reached a preliminary agreement to acquire a majority stake in Eldense, a club from the Spanish second tier based in Alicante. The operation involves the purchase of shares from the TH Soluciones group, making the former FC Barcelona player the majority shareholder of the Spanish club.
The operation is still subject to final legal steps and authorization from the Spanish Higher Sports Council. No financial details or specific timelines for the completion of the purchase have been disclosed.
This could become the second club controlled by the Argentine star in Spain, after the acquisition of Cornellà, from the lower divisions, which took place in April. Eldense currently plays in the Spanish Segunda División.
Messi, 39, an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner and 2022 World Cup champion, has represented American side Inter Miami since 2023. At the end of August, the Argentine announced his retirement from the Argentine national team, following the defeat in the 2026 World Cup final against Spain.
