The State Secretary of Penal Police (Seppen) carried out seizures on Wednesday in four prison units in Rio de Janeiro, confiscating 28 cellular phones and approximately one kilogram of drugs during the searches.
The searches took place at Presídio Romeiro Neto, in Magé, in Baixada Fluminense; at Instituto Penal Edgar Costa, in Niterói, in the Metropolitan Region; at Penitentiary Talavera Bruce, in Bangu, in the West Zone of the capital; and at Presídio Nelson Hungria, in the Gericinó Complex, also in the West Zone.
The operation is called Operation Illicitus and aims to combat organized crime in the prison system, dismantling communication between members of criminal factions who are imprisoned and those who are free.
The actions are systematic and involve the integrated work of the Undersecretariats of Seppen.
