José Luis Mendilibar left the managerial position at Olympiakos, as was officially announced by the Greek club. The Spanish coach, who had taken charge of the team in March 2024, did not remain in the position for the new season.
Mendilibar led Olympiakos to the Europa League final last season, where they lost to Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite this significant sporting achievement, the club decided not to continue the project with the coach.
According to the Greek press, the chosen successor to replace Mendilibar is Imanol Alguacil, also of Spanish nationality. Alguacil had been until now the coach of Real Sociedad, a club for which he stood out in recent seasons.
The change in managerial position comes at a time when Olympiakos is looking to strengthen its position in European football, after a season that was marked by their presence in the final of the second most prestigious European competition.
