The European Commission presented a proposal aimed at addressing the housing crisis in areas under pressure, proposing measures to curb short-term rentals, vacant properties and second homes.
The proposal aims to regulate the real estate market in specific geographic areas where there are housing accessibility problems, imposing limits on the operation of short-term rental platforms and on property accumulation.
Owners of vacant properties and second homes may face new restrictions, while short-term rental operators also have reasons for concern given the possible limits that may be imposed on their activities.
The measure comes in the context of growing demand for affordable housing in major European cities, where rising prices and a lack of supply have created difficulties for local residents.
