The Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Castro Almeida, stated yesterday that the supports announced by the Government "never" will be sufficient to cope with the increase in the cost of living in Portugal.
The official considered that the country finds itself in a situation similar to a war context, due to the multiple crises affecting it. "It is never sufficient. No country that has balanced accounts has enough money to support a war situation," declared Castro Almeida.
The minister recognized that Portugal is not officially at war, but emphasized that the country is suffering the consequences of war. He highlighted that the current economic situation is comparable to a scenario of armed conflict, which limits the Executive's capacity to respond through social supports.
The statements come at a time when Portuguese people face significant pressures due to the increase in the cost of living, and when the Government has been implementing support measures, which, according to the Executive itself, are insufficient to completely mitigate the effects of the adverse economic situation.
