Santo António still wants to get married in a changing Lisbon

Director Ruben Alves brings to the cinemas the comedy "Santo António still wants to get married," a production that promises to be fun, but that simultaneously presents a critical eye on the city of Lisbon.

The film addresses the Portuguese capital as a multicultural and frantic city, in constant transformation. Through comedy, the work explores the tensions and contradictions of a Lisbon that struggles with the phenomenon of mass tourism and gentrification.

The narrative centers on the figure of Santo António, who maintains the desire to get married, but does so in an urban context undergoing profound change. The director uses humor to comment on how the city has become increasingly distant from its original essence.

The critique highlights that, despite the light tone of the comedy, the film does not avoid confronting the social and urban realities that have transformed Lisbon in recent decades, thus becoming both an entertaining and pertinent reflection on the identity of the Portuguese capital.
