The renewal promoted by Carlo Ancelotti in the Brazilian National Team is viewed favorably by Zico, but the greatest idol of Flamengo demands that changes in the national team should have happened much earlier. In an interview with GLOBO, moments before receiving the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from Candido Mendes University, on Tuesday, in downtown Rio, the former player stated that the renewal does good to the team, but should have been initiated since the 7-1 thrashing suffered against Germany, in 2014.
Zico defended that Brazil continues producing talents, but the youth categories do not adequately prepare athletes for professional football. For him, the problem is not the lack of quality in young players, but the guidance and appreciation they receive during their development.
The Galinho de Quintino stated that young people are not valued or guided as they should be. According to the former player, the kids who start playing have many dreams and illusions, but do not receive the necessary support to develop their potential and become high-level professionals.
