Minister Edson Fachin convened the Plenary of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to deliberate on a dispute involving ministers Alexandre de Moraes, André Mendonça, Flavio Dino and the Federal Police. The so-called "war" refers to conflicts of jurisdiction between the ministers in the context of ongoing investigations.
Fachin also removed from Alexandre de Moraes the so-called Fake News inquiry, which investigated false news and attacks against members of the court. The rapporteurship was redistributed to another minister, according to a decision made by the president of the STF.
Additionally, Fachin removed from André Mendonça an investigation that involved the minister himself, transferring the case to another instance. The decisions were made amid a scenario of internal disputes in the court over which ministers should lead certain inquiries.
The movements occur after conflicts between the ministers regarding jurisdiction to conduct sensitive investigations, including cases related to anti-democratic acts and attacks on the court. The convening of the Plenary seeks to definitively resolve these jurisdiction issues.
