Botafogo refused a new offer from Tigres-MEX for striker Arthur Cabral, this time worth 9 million dollars, approximately 45.8 million reais. The Rio club indicated they will not release the forward and the player should remain in Rio de Janeiro until the end of the season. The information was initially reported by ESPN.
The main reason for Botafogo's rejection is the short time available to sign a replacement, as the transfer window closes this Friday. The black-and-white management had contacted some names, such as Álex Arce from Independiente Rivadavia, but did not advance any alternative negotiations.
Beyond the time issue, Botafogo would have tried to raise the values if they were indeed pursuing the sale. This is because the club signed Cabral last year for 15 million euros, and the management did not want to give up the player for a value so much lower than what was paid.
Tigres, for their part, have already moved forward with the signing of a new forward. According to journalist César Luis Melo, the Mexican team will pay 4.5 million dollars for Emiliano Gomez from Puebla-MEX. Interestingly, the Uruguayan was one of the names sounded out by Botafogo itself as a possible replacement for Cabral.
