Portugal won two medals on the first day of the Kocaeli Europeans. Marco Meneses achieved silver in the 400 meters freestyle of the S11 class, while Diogo Cancela took bronze in the 100 meters butterfly of the S8 class. These medals represent Portugal's first significant results in this European adapted swimming competition.
Marco Meneses competed in the S11 category, which is intended for athletes with severe visual impairment. His 400 meters freestyle event resulted in a silver medal, demonstrating his competitive level in the European scene. Diogo Cancela, on the other hand, competed in the S8 class, which covers athletes with physical disabilities, and managed to secure third place in the 100 meters butterfly final.
The Kocaeli Europeans began with these two Portuguese medals, setting a good start for the national delegation at the competition. The event is taking place in the Turkish city of Kocaeli and brings together the main adapted swimming athletes from the European continent.
