20 minutes: IRS to decrease up to the sixth bracket

SIC Notícias9 September 2026 at 20:50

IRS is set to decrease up to the sixth bracket starting in November, a measure that will give families more money, but the exact amount has not yet been defined.

The IRS reduction will affect taxpayers in the first six income brackets, which covers a large part of the Portuguese population.

The government has not yet specified the exact value of the tax reduction, leaving that definition to be announced in the future.

This measure comes within the scope of policies to support Portuguese families, seeking to increase the available income of taxpayers through a reduced tax burden.

Ceuta: Spanish government emphasizes there was no report or official alert

The Spanish Government reiterated on Wednesday that it did not receive any report or official alert from the National Intelligence Center (CNI) about the migratory crisis in Ceuta in July, maintaining that no one predicted the magnitude of what occurred. The Government's delegate in Ceuta, Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano, emphasized that the exchanges of information via WhatsApp between a CNI member and his office do not constitute an official alert, because when the CNI has a formal alert, it issues it in a "sealed envelope" addressed to ministries. Declassified documents reveal that the CNI alerted Morocco and Spanish authorities, on July 29, about calls on social media with 180,000 followers urging an assault on Ceuta's fence the following day, but the intelligence services guarantee that they did not anticipate the dimension that the crisis would come to have, with more than 70,000 people entering the Spanish enclave illegally.
