CIA Director John Ratcliffe must take on a mediation role between Russia and Ukraine, at a time of intensifying conflict. This appointment comes after a new failed mission by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who attempted to bring the two parties' positions closer together without success.
Moscow is believed to have hardened its demands in the negotiations, making any peace agreement more difficult. The conditions imposed by Russia have become more rigid, which has hindered the negotiation process.
Attacks are believed to have resumed as soon as the pause for negotiations ended, indicating a return to military confrontation. This resumption of fighting comes at a time when diplomatic attempts appear to have completely failed.
