OpenAI claims to have solved a nearly century-old mathematical puzzle, resorting to a massive mobilization of artificial intelligence resources. The problem in question is part of the Navier-Stokes equations, which describe fluid motion and are fundamental to physics and engineering.
The company mobilized about 10,000 AI agents to tackle the challenge, in an effort that also involved an investment of millions of dollars. The resolution process took only 88 hours, a relatively short period considering the complexity of the problem.
This feat represents a significant milestone in the application of artificial intelligence systems to solving long-standing mathematical problems. The Navier-Stokes equations, formulated in the 19th century, continue to be the subject of intense study due to their importance for understanding phenomena related to fluids.
