The Pitoresco festival is in its 11th edition, remaining an inclusive, free event open to the community. The festival includes an open-air gallery with murals painted around the city.
This year, four new murals will be painted, including the renewal of an existing mural. The locations include the village of Vilarinho da Samardã, Bairro da Telheira and the Municipal Market, establishing a strong connection to the traditions and culture of Vila Real and the region.
Alexandre Favaios, mayor of Vila Real, explained that there has been a growing concern not only to expand the gallery, but also to preserve and revitalize what has already been done. In this sense, this year will see the second renewal of the "Reino Maravilhoso" mural, in Quinchosos.
