The PSOL candidate for governor of Rio de Janeiro, William Siri, defended during a debate held by the outlets O GLOBO, Extra, Valor and CBN Radio the prohibition of the use of lethal and less-lethal weapons from Military Police helicopters. Siri argued that aerial operations are "terrifying for families" living in conflict areas of the city.
The candidate also presented proposals for the state's public security, including the recapture of territories dominated by criminal factions through combined actions in sanitation, culture and policing. Siri also advocated for the creation of a unified civilian police force to replace the current model.
Another proposal from the PSOL candidate is the concentration of security command in a single Security Secretariat, which would be directly linked to the governor's office. The objective would be to unify actions and give greater centralized control over public security operations in the state.
During the debate, the candidate expressed resistance regarding the use of helicopters for police operations, stating that he sees no possibility of using this tool at first, preferring to seek other solutions for the conflict in the communities.
