Liverpool has the most expensive squad to assemble in world football, according to a study by CIES Football Observatory. The English team tops the ranking with 1.2 billion euros (approximately R$ 7.13 billion) invested in transfer fees to sign the players who currently make up the squad. The study considers the fees paid by clubs to sign the players in the current squad, including additional amounts stipulated in contracts, regardless of whether they have actually been paid.
Liverpool climbed three positions compared to the study conducted during the same period last year and took the lead from Chelsea, which was previously on top. The difference to the second place is minimal, at only 17 million euros.
The top six positions in the ranking are from the Premier League, which demonstrates the financial power of the English league. Manchester City appears in second position, with 1.209 billion euros, followed by Tottenham in third, with 1.178 billion euros. Chelsea occupies fourth position with 1.166 billion euros, while Manchester United is in fifth with 1.157 billion euros and Arsenal completes the list of the top six with 1.089 billion euros.
