The Centro de Saúde de Alpiarça will hold free skin and oral cavity cancer screenings on September 26th. The initiative is promoted by the Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro (Portuguese League Against Cancer), through the Southern Regional Branch, with support from the Municipality of Alpiarça and the Family Health Unit of Alpiarça. The goal is to raise awareness among the population about the importance of prevention and early detection of the disease.
The skin cancer screening targets people over 50, with a family history of the disease, with more than 50 moles, with light skin and eyes, or with professions that involve high sun exposure. The oral cavity cancer screening targets smokers aged 40 or over, people with pain, lesions, or changes in color or surface of the oral mucosa, as well as those with unusual volume increase in the structures of the mouth or upper airways.
People referred by their family doctor can also participate. The screenings are conducted by prior appointment, through the telephone contact of the Centro de Saúde de Alpiarça.
