The Portuguese Government intends to create a permanent mechanism to evaluate the state of the country's infrastructure. The announcement was made by the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Hugo Espírito Santo.
As part of this evaluation effort, LNEC (National Laboratory of Civil Engineering) carried out 53 inspections. These inspections included 29 works of art, which mainly refer to bridges and similar structures.
The remaining 24 inspections were carried out on slopes, which are inclined ground surfaces, often found on roads and railways.
The Government's objective is to establish a continuous monitoring system that allows identifying problems in infrastructure before they become critical, ensuring greater public safety.
