Supreme Federal Court ministers sought out the Court president, Edson Fachin, on Wednesday to demand intervention in light of the worsening internal crisis at the court. The assessment presented to the president is that the succession of decisions made by different members of the court made the scenario of uncertainty unsustainable and requires an initiative capable of halting the dispute between the factions of Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça.
The phone calls occurred after Flavío Dino granted an injunction to reinstate the director-general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, overturning the removal ordered by Mendonça the previous day. Dino's decision represented another chapter in the clash between the ministers.
The new judicial dispute reinforced among the members of the Court the perception that the crisis has also come to put in check Fachin's authority to lead an institutional way out. Mendonça himself was one of the ministers who called the STF president to demand more incisive action.
