From wine to the kitchen: Study reveals how social class and gender shape Portuguese habits

SAPO Notícias9 September 2026 at 15:45

Wine continues to be the most consumed alcoholic beverage in Portugal, but a new study reveals that consumption patterns vary significantly depending on social class and gender. The research analyzed the habits of the Portuguese both in relation to wine and culinary practices.

The results show that there are marked differences between social groups regarding wine consumption and the use of this product in the kitchen. Gender also emerges as a determining factor in the way men and women approach these practices.

The study shows that eating habits and alcohol consumption in Portugal are strongly related to socioeconomic factors. These differences suggest that social class and gender significantly shape the Portuguese relationship with food and wine.

China, Russia and Niger opposed, while eight countries abstained. Since attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, Tehran has restricted access to IAEA inspectors, who cannot determine the whereabouts of approximately 400 kilograms of highly enriched uranium, a material close to military use.
