The Academic Federation of University Sports (FADU) proposed the creation of a 50-euro fund per student to finance university sports in Portugal. The measure aims to support higher education institutions and students in sports practice.
According to data presented by FADU, 61% of higher education institutions in Portugal do not have their own sports facilities. This lack of infrastructure limits students' access to physical activity and sports practice.
The federation argues that the proposed fund would allow universities and polytechnics to invest in partnerships with external sports facilities, as well as in organizing competitions and sports activities for their students.
The proposal comes at a time when university sports faces significant funding and infrastructure challenges, with FADU warning of the need for public investment to ensure all students have access to sports.
