Hungary formally notified Brussels that it has met the conditions related to the rule of law, in a gesture that represents a new step toward the normalization of relations between the country and the European Union.
This compliance with conditions can unlock 4.2 billion euros in European funds that were withheld.
Additionally, the measure could restore access for Hungarian researchers and students who had been excluded from European programs due to the dispute over the rule of law.
The article comes in the context of a broader process of tension between Hungary and European institutions, which had withheld funds and excluded the country from programs due to concerns about compliance with democratic rules in Hungary.
