New warnings about INEM's organic law: "It doesn't minimally address current challenges"

Público9 September 2026 at 15:20

The former president of the College of Emergency Medicine Competence, Vitor Almeida, expressed concern regarding INEM's new organic law, considering that it "doesn't minimally address current challenges." His statements come in the context of new warnings about the current legislation.

Vitor Almeida argues that the new law needs to be reviewed, pointing out deficiencies in how the organization is structured to face contemporary challenges in emergency medicine in Portugal.

The main cause for concern relates to the fact that approximately 22,000 patients didn't have access to INEM's most suitable resources, which demonstrates failures in the emergency medical response system.

The College of Emergency Medicine Competence, through its former president, thus warns of the need for legislative changes that allow for a better response to the population's needs.
