Brussels grants Spain 114.7 million euros in aid to deal with the crisis in Ceuta

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General9 September 2026 at 14:49

The European Commission granted this Wednesday 114.7 million euros in aid to Spain in response to the migratory crisis in Ceuta. The aid comes following the massive entry of thousands of people irregularly into the Spanish city last July.

The money is to be used for three main objectives: reinforce security at the border with Morocco, facilitate the identification and return of irregular migrants, and improve the reception capacity for unaccompanied minors.

The Ceuta crisis represented one of the largest terrestrial migratory flows to Europe in recent years, placing significant pressure on Spanish and European authorities regarding migratory management and security at the external borders of the European Union.

Alberto Gonçalves analyses the apparent contradiction of comedians and artists who refused to participate in a festival with Jerry Seinfeld, criticizing him for alleged controversial positions, but who simultaneously attended editions of the "Avante!" festival, organized by the Portuguese Communist Party, arguing that this event celebrates real genocides since 1931. The commentator highlights what he considers to be selective hypocrisy of these artists in their condemnation of certain figures while participating in an event associated with Stalinist regimes responsible for millions of deaths.
