The Minister of Education, Fernando Alexandre, announced a new teacher recruitment contest with the aim of filling vacancies more quickly, ensuring that positions are occupied "every day". The minister argues that the new model will be more "efficient" in managing human resources in the education sector.
According to the minister, one of the main advantages of the new contest is the promise to "drastically reduce" the time students spend without classes due to the lack of teachers. This situation has been a recurring concern in the Portuguese education system.
The announcement comes in a context of persistent difficulties in hiring teachers, where traditional recruitment processes have taken too long, leaving classes without pedagogical support for prolonged periods.
Fernando Alexandre did not specify concrete dates for the implementation of the new model, but indicated that the reform aims to optimize the entire process of placing teachers in schools across the country.
