Jacob Coxon, a researcher at Anthropic, submitted his resignation and warned that artificial intelligence could kill humans before 2030. Coxon accuses Anthropic and OpenAI of competing to create AI systems capable of improving themselves, which he considers extremely dangerous.
The researcher states that Anthropic is working on developing artificial general intelligence (AGI) systems that can surpass human capabilities without adequate supervision. This technological race represents, according to Coxon, an existential threat to humanity.
A colleague of Coxon's at Anthropic estimated that the risk of extinction caused by AI is greater than 10%. This assessment contrasts with the more optimistic positions of other companies in the tech sector.
Coxon decided to leave the company after losing hope that Anthropic would voluntarily change its practices. The researcher believes that only government intervention can halt the development of increasingly powerful and potentially lethal AI systems.
