Doctor Vítor Almeida says there are 22 thousand emergency situations without adequate response from INEM

Vítor Almeida, the doctor who refused to lead the National Institute of Medical Emergencies in 2024, was heard this Wednesday at the parliamentary Health committee. The hearing was requested by the Socialist Party and aimed to debate the new organic law of INEM.

During his intervention, Vítor Almeida warned about the existence of 22 thousand emergency situations that are not receiving adequate care from INEM. The doctor spoke about the challenges and problems he identified at the institution.

Vítor Almeida had been invited to lead INEM last year, but refused the position. His parliamentary hearing takes place in the context of the discussion about the reorganization of the organic structure of the institute.
