The Portuguese Government intends to create a permanent mechanism to evaluate the state of the country's infrastructures. This intention arises following recent episodes of bad weather that affected various regions.
To start this process, the Executive has already mandated the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering to carry out a major audit of all artworks and critical infrastructures in the country.
This measure aims to ensure continuous and preventive monitoring of the state of infrastructures, in order to avoid collapses or accidents caused by the deterioration of constructions.
LNEC, as the reference technical entity in the area of civil engineering, will be responsible for evaluating and identifying any problems in the most important infrastructures for public safety.
