An old industrial complex in Uzbekistan has been transformed into the country's first permanent centre dedicated to contemporary art. The change of function of the space, which previously served as an electric tram depot, represents a new bet on culture and the arts in the region.
The centre's inaugural exhibition brings together local and international artists, creating a space for dialogue between different artistic expressions. This exhibition marks the beginning of a new cultural phase for Uzbekistan, which now has a facility dedicated to contemporary art.
The project goes beyond the country's borders through partnerships established with major international museums. These collaborations enable works and projects from the centre to circulate abroad, expanding the initiative's reach beyond the traditional Silk Road.
