The Minister of Justice publicly acknowledged the difficulties faced by the Brazilian prison system in light of the significant increase in the number of detainees.
According to the data presented, only this year more than 13,700 new inmates were registered in the country's prisons.
The scenario is also marked by alarming mortality numbers, with 55 deaths recorded in the prison system in the same period.
The situation highlights the structural challenges of the national prison system, which faces problems of overcrowding and poor conditions.
